Spreading the message of World Youth Day and what is happening is no easy task. But none the less we have some wonderful volunteers in our Diocese whom are going to be sharing as much as they can, especially in the land of social media.
So to help you to get to know who has volunteered, one of our volunteers is going to tell us a little bit about herself.
WYD 2016 Communications Officer – Portsmouth Diocese
Name: Colette Gilhooley
9 – 5 Job: Administrator
Parish Church: St Philip Howard, Fareham
Why are you going to WYD 2016?
It is a great time to just share in the joy of the faith and the Gospel and just be with other young people. It’s amazing to be able to be a witness to this pilgrimage (and to see if the reports I’ve heard are really true about World Youth Day!)
What are you looking forward to the most?
The unexpected (that’s not a hint for surprises guys…)! I think seeing the Pope will be incredible as well as meeting other people from all over the world and hearing about their pilgrimage and having the opportunity to praise God and pray with them.
Have you been to World Youth Day before?
No, I am a World Youth Day Newby but I am very excited 😊 especially with you joining me!!!
What are you expecting from the event?
I think it will be phenomenal but maybe in a way that I am not expecting. It is something I’ve never experienced before, being around 2.5 million people is a little daunting (and exciting)! However, I have already met some of the awesome people that I am going with so I am just going with an open mind and to enjoy being able to go on this pilgrimage with them.
Why did you say yes to volunteering?
I have heard inspiring reports from others whom have been to World Youth Days before and I think it will be an amazing opportunity. It will be great to be there and experience it, but also to share it with others at home, like you, while it is happening and for you to be a part of this pilgrimage too.
How can we follow you when you’re in Krakow?
